I got "Network Effect" and "The Murderbot Diaries Vol. 1" in Japanese because I am insane. So I guess now I'm going to read Murderbot in Japanese.

Or I am reading Murderbot in Japanese, because I was flipping pages and reading words aloud in Japanese and understanding them. That is reading. That's what it is.

I think I need to do this with French, I was studying it years ago (... literally exactly a decade wow) and so there's random things I understand, maybe I could get better if I get a book in both English and French to read.

Fun is a very relative term BUT YEAH I was going NUTS last night. Murderbot and ART have such really specific ways of speaking Japanese that really add to their characters I think. This translator did a REALLY good job lol

Like I used to have to always use my phone camera to be able to share text in Japanese because I couldn't read it well enough to be able to type and all the Posting I've been doing on Tumblr and Bluesky is me just straight up typing words because I can read them. That's NUTS. I did have to look up some verbs for stuff like I didn't know but I'm doing it by re-writing the words with my finger and using my online dictionary lol. I wouldn't say that I feel confidently literate or anything, but I guess I CAN read.

I heard that the translators actually won an award for their work on the series! Or at least for the translation of All Systems Red!!! It's definitely got the kanji for award all over the little ribbon they added to the dust cover.

They definitely put a lot of thought into how different characters should speak and, I think, why they would speak that way. It's really opening my eyes on the characters and conflicts and stuff!!!
